Patient Guide

Come prepared — it makes the first visit more useful

01 · Before your visit

What to bring

Keep everything in one folder, in date order. Bring originals and not just photos where you can.

  • Old reports

Blood tests, EEG, nerve tests and discharge summaries from earlier visits or hospital stays.

  • MRI or CT films

The films or the CD, along with the written report. The images themselves are often needed.

  • List of medicines

Names, doses and timings of all medicines you take now — or simply bring the strips and bottles.

  • Old prescriptions

Earlier prescriptions show which medicines were tried before and how they worked.

  • Videos of episodes

A short phone video of a fit, a tremor or an unusual movement can be very useful for diagnosis.

  • A family member

Someone who has seen the symptoms can describe what happened, especially if you were not aware of it.

Write down your questions

It is easy to forget one during the visit

  • What is the likely cause of my symptoms?
  • Which tests do I need, and why?
  • What are the treatment options and their side effects?
  • How long will I need treatment?
  • What should I avoid in daily life?
  • When should I come back for follow-up?

02 · Fits & headaches

Keep a simple diary

Symptoms that come and go are often not present during the visit. A diary and a video show the pattern.

03 · For children

Bringing your child

Children often cannot describe their symptoms, so the details parents bring are especially helpful.

  • Notes on milestones — when the child sat, walked and spoke
  • Vaccination card
  • Phone videos of any fits, spells or unusual movements
  • School reports or teacher's notes, if there are learning or attention concerns
  • A favourite toy or snack to keep the child calm during the visit
